Machu Picchu

Sitting high on the south-eastern slopes of the Andes mountains up to 2,200m above sea level. The natural setting has a rich diversity of flora and fauna and the climate conditions make this region perfect for supporting the growth of Arabica trees.

Huadquiña is a small cooperative that was discovered on some of the highest mountain sides where coffee grows in the remote town of Santa Teresa, in Cusco, Peru.  Located  in the Andrean Mountains and close to the Inca site of Machu Picchu, their extreme altitude contributes towards producing excellent quality coffee. It’s a small cooperative made up of 288 coffee farmers, and 23% are women.

We’re proud to have worked with them since 1994, when they were part of a larger cooperative called COCLA. Since then, with training, investment and a guarantee of sales, they’ve become very successful. They have won several major awards for their specialty organic coffee, achieving extremely high scores rarely achieved anywhere in the world.

Mayan Gold

Chiapas is a southern Mexican state bordering Guatemala. Its mountainous highlands and dense rainforest are dotted with Mayan archaeological sites and Spanish colonial towns. Two of our cooperatives have their farms in the Parque Natural El Triunfo. El Trinufo is an expanse of cloud forest and tropical jungle home to pumas, spider monkeys & endangered bird species.

Surrounded by lush flora and diverse fauna, the members of CESMACH have always had a strong sense of guardianship of their environment. They farm organically to protect the surrounding nature and a technical team supports its network of farmers with training on this.

We’ve worked with CESMACH since 2003.  As partners, we showed that they could count on us when Hurricane Stan ravaged their land in 2005 and we donated an emergency support fund to help them back on their feet. And we know we can always count on them for their highest quality coffee.

Colombia Reserva

The Coocentral Cooperative is based in Huila where the Andes, the world’s longest continental mountain range, splits into three. Micro-climates from the three distinct mountain ranges provide a variety in flavour for the beans.

We love working with COOCENTRAL because their top priority is making life better for the 3,000 farmer members and their families. This is shown by the wealth of education, housing and health programmes they have provided for all cooperative members. By taking care of their members, the farmers have more time to focus on the quality of their coffee which attracts a higher price for their produce.

They are committed to caring for their natural environment and preserving their land for the future generation. They provide continuous training, support and advice to all members on environmentally friendly agriculture and have achieved numerous sustainability certifications by doing so.

We’ve worked with the Kimuli cooperative in Tanzania since 2015.  It has over 2,000 farmer members, who own small family-run coffee farms.  Many members also grow other agricultural products, such as bananas, sweet potatoes and yams, to increase their income and food supply.

The cooperative became Fairtrade certified in 2012. With the Fairtrade Premium they receive for their members’ coffee, the cooperative has been able to fund projects to benefit the whole community.
