How to Brew Coffee with a V60

How to Brew Coffee with a V60

An elegant brew that celebrates clarity and flavour.

The V60 is loved for its ability to bring out the delicate flavours and aromas that make every coffee unique. Its paper filter creates a clean, crisp cup, allowing the character of the coffee to take centre stage.

If you enjoy exploring how different origins taste, the V60 is one of the best ways to experience the flavours shaped by altitude, climate and the care of the people who grow your coffee.

You'll need:

  • Medium-fine ground Cafédirect coffee
  • V60 dripper
  • V60 paper filter
  • Gooseneck kettle (recommended)
  • Fresh water heated to 92–96°C
  • Digital scales
  • Timer
  • Mug or server
How to brew
  1. Fold the paper filter along the seam and place it inside the V60.
  2. Rinse the filter with hot water to remove any papery taste and warm your brewer and server. Discard the rinse water.
  3. Add your ground coffee and gently level the coffee bed.
  4. Place the V60 on your scales, reset to zero and start your timer.
  5. Begin with a bloom, pouring a small amount of water evenly over all the coffee grounds until they're fully saturated. Leave for around 30 seconds to allow the coffee to release trapped gases.
  6. Slowly continue pouring in steady circular motions, keeping the water level consistent as you brew.
  7. Aim for a total brew time of around 2½–3½ minutes, depending on your grind size and recipe.
  8. Once all the water has passed through, remove the V60, swirl the brewed coffee gently and serve.
Top Brewing Tips
  • A gooseneck kettle gives you greater control over your pour, helping create a more even extraction.
  • Pour slowly and steadily, avoiding pouring directly onto the paper filter.
  • Freshly ground coffee will always produce the brightest, most expressive flavours.
  • If your coffee tastes bitter, try grinding a little coarser. If it tastes sharp or underdeveloped, try a slightly finer grind.
  • Consistency is key – using scales and a timer makes it easier to recreate your favourite cup.

The V60 is ideal for showcasing the unique flavours of our single origin coffees.
