What are cookies and similar technologies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. We also use similar technologies: local and session storage in your browser, and scripts and tags (including pixels) that load from our site or from our partners. On this page we use "cookies" to cover all of them.

Managing your choices

Apart from strictly necessary cookies and the small number of identifiers described under "Stored before you make a choice" below, we only set cookies if you accept them in our cookie banner. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the button below. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but parts of the site, such as your basket and checkout, may stop working.

Stored before you make a choice

A small number of identifiers are stored in your browser when you visit our site, before you have made a cookie choice. They are used to measure completed orders and subscription renewals accurately, and to run our email sign-up and personalisation tools. They are not advertising cookies.

Order measurement. Our analytics provider, Littledata, stores a randomly generated identifier and related browser information in your browser, and sends it to Littledata when you visit, before you make a cookie choice. This information can include your basket reference, your cookie choice, where you came from, your language, country, time zone, and details of your device and browser. It is used to link your visit to a later order. This happens whether or not you accept analytics or advertising cookies.

If you decline, we still process completed orders and subscription events on our servers and through Littledata. This data can be linked to your order or customer account, and details of the purchase can be sent to Google Analytics and Google Ads for measurement. This can include your IP address, device and browser details, any advertising click identifier, and, where you have an account or place an order, customer details in hashed or encrypted form. We do this to measure and improve the performance of our shop and our advertising. Basket and checkout records are kept for around two weeks and, where linked to a customer record, for up to one year. If you withdraw a consent you previously gave, information already stored in your browser by this tool may remain until you clear your browser data.

Signals without cookies. Before you choose, and if you decline, our Google tags may send anonymous consent signals and basic page-view pings to Google that do not use cookies or a persistent identifier from your device. Our Microsoft Clarity script also loads on every visit but does not set its cookies unless you accept.

Cookies we use

Cookies set by a third party are set by the provider named, not by us. Some providers, such as Microsoft, Google and Meta, act as independent controllers of the data they collect and handle it under their own privacy notices. The lists below come from a technical scan of our site and are updated when our tools change.

Strictly necessary

These are needed to run the site and its core functions, such as your basket, checkout, account sign-in, security and remembering your cookie choice. They do not need your consent.
