At Cafédirect, we’re serious about doing coffee right — and that means taking real action on carbon.

We’ve signed up to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), setting ambitious emissions cuts that are based on what climate science tells us we need to achieve. There’s no false promises here – the SBTi independently approves our targets, so we’re not marking our own homework.

We’re one of just three small businesses in the UK’s ‘Food and Retail Staples’ sector to take this step. The need for fast, deep cuts to emissions is real — and we’re in.

Here’s what we’ve committed to:

  • Cut our scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50% by 2030 (compared to 2023) and to measure and reduce our scope 3 emissions
  • Reduce all emissions by 90% by 2040

Our greenhouse gas emissions by year

2023

In 2023, our business doubled in size with the purchase of Bewley’s UK – and our footprint quadrupled. The full carbon assessment at this new scale is in the table below. We’re using it to build a detailed plan for reductions.

2023 became our new base year for reductions with the Science Based Targets initiative.
