High in the Peruvian Andes, close to the iconic ruins of Machu Picchu, the farmers of Huadquiña grow exceptional coffee in one of the world's most spectacular coffee-growing landscapes.
Based in the remote district of Santa Teresa, the cooperative is made up of hundreds of smallholder farming families who share a belief that working together creates better opportunities for everyone. Their high-altitude farms produce outstanding organic Arabica coffee, shaped by mountain soils, cool temperatures and generations of coffee-growing knowledge.
We've worked alongside Huadquiña since 1994, making it one of our longest-standing producer partnerships.
Huadquiña's coffee grows high on the steep slopes of the Peruvian Andes, where altitude, rich soils and dramatic changes between warm days and cool nights allow coffee cherries to develop slowly and naturally.
Every harvest is carefully hand-picked before being processed and quality checked by the cooperative. Combined with organic farming practices and meticulous attention to quality, the result is coffee that's full-bodied, beautifully balanced and recognised internationally for its exceptional quality.
Today, Huadquiña's award-winning coffee is featured in our best-selling Machu Picchu blend.
For the cooperative's members, caring for the land is inseparable from caring for their communities. Farmers work with nature, using organic farming methods that help protect soils, biodiversity and the landscapes that support their livelihoods.
The cooperative also invests in training, quality improvement and strengthening members' farming businesses, helping families build more resilient futures while continuing to produce exceptional coffee.
Our relationship with Huadquiña goes far beyond buying coffee.
When the cooperative faced an uncertain future following the collapse of its former parent cooperative, Cafédirect worked alongside Huadquiña to help secure the finance it needed to survive and rebuild. Together with our partners, we helped unlock vital funding at a time when few others were willing to help.
Today, Huadquiña is a thriving, award-winning cooperative whose coffee is enjoyed by thousands of people across the UK.
It's one of the clearest examples of what makes Cafédirect different - building partnerships that last, supporting farmers through both challenges and successes, and helping create a more resilient future for coffee.
