For our Roasters Choice Espresso offering we combine coffees from different origins around the world to achieve a unique expression of flavour, acidity, and body. Some blends are borne out of experimentation, while others are the fulfilment of a desired flavour profile. The unison of each coffees diverse flavour and characteristics creates an enhanced taste experience those individual coffees could not create. It’s the harmony of exceptional coffee, roast mastery, and a lot of experience that leads to a well-balanced, complex, and often exceptional beverage.
Our current Roasters Choice Espresso is a blend of two coffees from the Comsa co-operative in Honduras and the Red de Mujeres co-op in Guatemala. It makes for a balanced espresso with notes of vanilla, cherry and rum.
The Huehuetenango region of Guatemala holds the highest non-volcanic mountains in Central America, meaning that the conditions are ideal for growing amazing specialty coffee. This particular coffee comes from the San Antonio Huista area grown by ‘Red de Mujeres’, which is a group made up exclusively of women. Hard past times have hit these communities with civil war and the coffee crisis 15 years ago, but through their hard work and resilience they are producing outstanding coffees whilst sustaining and supporting their surrounding communities and environments.
The region of Cabañas, La Paz in Honduras is home to another fantastic female farmer, María Regina García and her farm El Marañón. María has been a member of the co-operative COMSA for many years and implements all the practices that are transferred by COMSA’s agronomist’s team and organic production policy. This is extremely important for it improves coffee quality by reviving depleted soil fertility and ending use of the harmful chemicals that caused it. This also has health benefits for farmers, makes fields safe to grow food crops and ends contamination of water sources. Coffee waste is recycled to make organic fertiliser which is distributed free to farmers, helping reduce fertiliser costs by a factor of 50 compared to chemicals.
We recommend you endeavor to receive your coffee as beans, as it will aid your coffee in staying fresher for longer and will keep those flavours and aromas that make that coffee distinct and vibrant locked in. If this isn’t possible we can grind your beans to suit your espresso brew method. Your coffee will be accompanied by a detailed leaflet outlining tasting notes, historical backdrops, environmental landscapes and inspiring and innovative stories of the coffees journey from the farm to your brew at home.
