For our Bright & Aromatic offering we rotate your coffee destination every three months to ensure you receive the freshest crops from the tastiest microlots. You will generally receive coffees from East Africa. The Great Rift Valley has the perfect terroir and varietals to produce complex coffees, with nuanced flavours, bright acidity and clean body. Often the flavour profiles are fruity, floral and tropical.
Our current Bright & Aromatic coffee comes from the Rukira wet mill, which is part of the Othaya Farmer’s Co-operative Society, in the heartland of Kikuyu territory. It has a delicate floral aroma with a zingy pink grapefruit acidity and notes of candied orange and blueberry.
Nyeri has cool temperatures and fertile central highlands, lying between the Eastern base of the Aberdare (Nyandarua) Range, which forms part of the Eastern end of the Great Rift Valley, and the Western slopes of Mt. Kenya. The combination of fertile soil, seasonal rainfall and high altitude provides the ideal climate for coffees characterised by high acidity, full body and ripe fruit flavours.
We recommend you endeavor to receive your coffee as beans, as it will aid your coffee in staying fresher for longer and will keep those flavours and aromas that make that coffee distinct and vibrant locked in. If this isn’t possible we can grind your beans to suit your filter brew method. Your coffee will be accompanied by a detailed leaflet outlining tasting notes, historical backdrops, environmental landscapes and inspiring and innovative stories of the coffees journey from the farm to your brew at home.
