Through our Producer Partnership Programme, Cafédirect has worked with Union Majomut on a variety of areas such as assisting in quality improvement with the Palenque gourmet coffee.

This gourmet project was a starting point for the training of a cupper (coffee taster) and review of quality control systems. We have also supported the former General Manager in his role as Board member of FLO and Chairman of the Latin American Fairtrade Producer network.

Union Majomut joined Compras the export alliance of three other Cafédirect producer partners in Chiapas ( CESMACH, Más Café and San Fernando), an initiative encouraged and supported by Cafédirect and their export business has grown considerably.

Through the PPP Cafédirect has also provided support in the development of a five year strategic plan, via participative workshops at different levels in the organisation.

We have also supported farmers in their reconstructive efforts after Hurricane Stan in 2005.

“I thank Cafédirect also for the premium for gourmet coffee. We need that premium because it takes more work to select the best coffee and to train farmers here in getting gourmet quality coffee.”

Walter Lenin Anzueto,

responsible for Technical Team at Union Majomut

“I believe that the Palenque product is the result of a real partnership between ourselves at Union Majomut, the other three cooperative organisations (San Fernando, Más Café, CESMACH), and Cafédirect.

Our partnership stretches right from the small farmer carefully tending his land, to the marketing team at Cafédirect, and all who fall between these two extremes. And now we have our very own Chiapas coffee sold in shops throughout the UK.

Although our producers cannot even imagine what these shops are like, we feel immensely proud to be able to offer our coffee to UK consumers.“
