Working with Cafédirect
Through our Producer Partnership Programme, San Fernando joined Union Majomut, CESMACH and Más Café in exports and sales promotion efforts . This led to the formation of Compras – a company that markets coffee to buyers around the world.
Training has resulted in improvements in internal communication & management. Specific quality control training has allowed members of San Fernando and coffee tasters like Esteban Albores to learn skills which enable them to be actively involved in the production of Palenque, our gourmet coffee from Mexico.
Cafédirect have also worked with San Fernando on reconstruction projects after damage caused by Hurricane Stan in 2005.

Villarreal,
Sales Manager of San Fernando
“You must know that San Fernando is created by farmers and run by farmers and most of us have no or little education. All we know is what we have learned by experience or by training of organisations such as Cafédirect.
Cafédirect has helped us understand the coffee market better. They have held workshops to build capacities within the organisation. We have learned to implement a continuous planning and evaluation process, which helps us alot to improve performance.
It has helped us create Compras, the overall export service for us, Más Café, Cesmach and Majomut, which reduced export costs for us by 50%. It works with us on capacity building at staff level, but also at farmers’ level, so that all understand better the business we are in."
Esteban Albores,
Coffee Taster
“I am the cupper at San Fernando. My job is to taste the coffee and ensure that it meets the high quality standards of our overseas clients. The highlands of Chiapas produce excellent quality coffee.
It is a great honour now to be able to deliver to the market gourmet coffee from our region that has been produced by four different, small producer organisations.
It’s proof that small farmers also know how to produce coffee of the highest quality and flavour.”
