The impact of Cafédirect premiums
Más Café distribute the Cafédirect premiums they receive between the member organisations, who then use these funds in a variety of different ways to further strengthen their infrastructure.
Tzajalchen, one of these member organisations, have used premiums to renovate and expand their warehouse. Another member organisation, Procafem, has used the funds to buy an office and a warehouse. Another, Juan Sabines, have reinvested funds in their organisation and also set up a women’s project and transport costs.
The premiums are sometimes used as extra payments for farmers, which gives them income which is not always readily available to smallholder farmers, who may otherwise have to leave their homes in search of income to support their families.
