“Ten years ago I worked for the union as a “machetero”, cleaning the land from weeds. After that I worked for a few years at the mill and in the warehouse, where I learnt to handle samples.
The union gave me an opportunity to take a course on coffee quality and cupping. Since then I have learnt a lot in workshops and courses, including with Cafédirect, and I am now in charge of the quality control department, together with Marcelino Cuacua, my colleague.
Quality control is an important element in the processing and exporting of coffee. We helped redesign the process and we had to validate the impact on quality.”

“I am an organic coffee grower in my cooperative. Now we obtain better prices for the Fairtrade organic coffee we sell to Cafédirect. This is a return to how previous generations farmed.
My father was also a coffee grower and he always believed it better to farm without chemicals and in harmony with the land.”

“The Union has received the unconditional support of Cafédirect and I believe that is a very important element to be able to count on unconditional support, in good and bad times.
We have tried to implement in our way all we have learned from the training of Cafédirect and I believe that that has contributed to a better product quality and a better quality service that we can offer to our clients and members.
Cafédirect’s support is an excellent support for us, because we share many things. We share the same ideas and we share our experiences and knowledge to keep on improving the functioning of the Union.”
