Supporting our partners

As well as providing training to CESMACH members, Cafédirect provides support to our partner organisations in times of great difficulty, such as after Hurricane Stan, which struck Mexico in 2005.

Fidel de Leon Perez (pictured right), President of CESMACH, talks about the support the organisation received after Hurricane Stan, and how important the relationship with Cafédirect is.

“We felt deflated as farmers after the Hurricane. We have worked hard to improve our quality over the years and much was destroyed. Thanks to the assistance of Cafédirect, we have been able to buy the equipment that we need to produce quality coffee once more. With Cafédirect’s support we are keen to re-plant and continue to work in coffee. It will take around four years to recover volumes but we are determined to work even more on pruning and caring for our coffee plants and improving quality.

With Cafédirect, we know that we have the market if we can ensure quality production. This gives us confidence to carry on. We are going to keep producing high quality coffee and it is going to be my obligation to sell more coffee so that we can support our families even more. Now with Cafédirect Palenque, our own gourmet product in the market, we are even more motivated, it makes it worthwhile to keep farming our land. Hopefully, people are going to buy this product and learn about the products and the farmers who produced it and want to buy more. We will be able to sell more and they will be supporting the producers.”
