Cafédirect Premiums

A health clinic has been constructed next to the factory for staff and neighbouring communities.

It sees on average 20 patients a day, providing general treatment as well as immunizations, HIV testing, counselling and treatment, and midwifery services. All medicines are provided free of cost.

It employs a nurse, clinical officer, lab technician and two midwives. The clinic is run entirely through Fairtrade premiums and contributions from the factory.

Premiums from Cafédirect have also contributed to infrastructure improvements, latrines, a tea nursery and schools.

General Manager Mabale

“Over the years Mabale has been selling its teas to Cafédirect and has actively participated in various activities funded by Cafédirect.

The benefits from this association cannot be over emphasised. A whole new world of opportunities has been opened to Mabale and its shareholder tea farmers. With Premium funds from Cafédirect, farmers have received a fair price for their produce, the otherwise poor rural road network has been worked on, health facilities have been provided, rural schools have been aided infrastructurally, training has been carried out and above all factory production capacity has been enhanced in terms of quality and other programmes like HACCP/BRC introduced for implementation.”
