Coffee Quality Officer

At just 21, Lydia is Gumutindo’s youngest employee. She’d been hand-picking coffee since leaving school but got the opportunity to work in the main office when the assistant took maternity leave.
Willington Wamayeye, Gumutindo General Manager, saw her potential as a taster and gave her the opportunity.
Lydia is now a vital member of the co-operative staff. She has responsibility for coffee tasting, providing training for farmers, and for quality control of shipments.
A recent visit to our offices in London enabled Lydia to see the business from the perspective of the buyer and to experience the UK market and demands.

“Cafédirect came to visit us and have encouraged the participation of women in our organisation. I am very proud to be the Treasurer of Gumutindo and now other women look to me as their role model.
Cafédirect has helped make the dreams of women come true.”
