Partnership
Our commitment to partnership with Michimikuru started with supporting them to attain FLO certification, and now extends to working with them on projects such as:
Needs Assessment: to gain a better understanding of the needs of the growers, in order to build a partnership programme tailored to them.
Energy Audits: carried out to look at the reduction of energy consumption in order to facilitate greater efficiency and more environmentally friendly practices.
HACCP Implementation: providing support to attain food safety standards.

“We do not get enough from tea at the moment to really develop our community, Fairtrade offers that hope, we have seen how much difference it has made to Kiegoi community development and we want to do the same.
I have seen some difference, just by Cafédirect coming and talking to us. It has changed our attitude to Fairtrade. Cafédirect seem serious.
We have seen the benefits of Kiegoi working with Cafédirect and would like to go the same way.”

“The relationship with Cafédirect has brought more understanding between the farmers and management due to the stakeholder meetings from the needs analysis. This has been very beneficial.
The introduction of Fairtrade and its systems at Michimikuru has raised expectations that farmers can benefit from Fairtrade sales to Cafédirect through the PPP and the Fairtrade Premiums. The farmers are now more aware of Fairtrade, safety requirements, environmental and quality standards. This can only benefit future farming methods.”
