The impact of Cafédirect premiums
MACEFCOOP have used their Fairtrade premiums for a number of projects which have greatly impacted the growers and their communities, as well as leading to improvements in the organisation itself.
By choosing to spend some of the funds to purchase desks and benches for local schools (some pictured right), the quality of life for children in the local communities has improved. The premiums have also been used to subsidise school fees for more than 100 secondary school children, which is important in a country where many children cannot afford to go beyond primary school education.
As well as these educational benefits, the premiums have been used to improve local infrastructure such as bridges on roads to member communities, or for the purchase of bicycles to provide much needed transport for members.
