Producer Partnership Programme (PPP)
At Cafédirect, we plough over half of our company profits back into the businesses of our grower partners. That’s our commitment. We call this reinvestment our Producer Partnership Programme (PPP) and it goes above and beyond the Fairtrade minimum prices and the social premiums that we pay as a registered Fairtrade company. So if you’re wondering what makes our 100% Fairtrade product range different from all other Fairtrade-labeled products out there, this is one big difference.
Over the past five years, we’ve reinvested over £3 million into our PPP, which is over 50% of our profits. For a small company, that’s something to be proud of.
So where has this money gone? It’s gone into tailor-made programmes that support the co-operatives and organisations from whom we buy our coffee, tea and cocoa. Some organisations need support in areas like leadership development, adapting to climate change or meeting strict Fairtrade standards, while others need support in coping with volatile coffee market prices, making their tea factories more energy efficient, or training expert coffee tasters (known as ‘cuppers’) to guarantee a delicious product for consumers. All in all, this support helps farmers to build stronger and more self-sustainable businesses.
For a small company, we’re setting a big example. By reinvesting our profits into farmers and their organisations, we create a partnership where everyone benefits … from the farmers who are empowered to grow excellent quality crops to the consumer who gets a delicious hot drink.
