I'd like to start by mentioning the devastating environmental disasters that have hit hard some of the countries where our grower partners live. In particular, the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Mexico have been hit hard by floods and high winds, and whilst I'm happy to report that our partners are okay, there has been tremendous damage in the areas and we send our thoughts and best wishes to those communities.

Back in the UK, last week was the 4th annual Enterprise Week, the biggest yet with over 5,000 events happening around the country to encourage young peoples’ ideas and creativity.

The week also featured Social Enterprise Day and I attended the launch of a Youth Commission for Social Enterprise at the Treasury, where a group of leading young social entrepreneurs presented their plans to an audience of government, social enterprise and business leaders, including Ed Miliband, Minister for the Cabinet Office, and Phil Hope, Minister for the Third Sector.

As one of the UK’s Social Enterprise Ambassador's I’m also working to encourage more businesses, be they start-ups or existing companies, to use their work, like Cafédirect has, to make a difference. It was exciting to meet with these young entrepreneurs and see their enthusiasm for using the social enterprise business model to balance healthy financial returns with social and environmental benefits.
