Located in eastern Uganda on the slopes of Mount Elgon, you’ll find the Gumutindo Coffee Co-operative. “Gumutindo” means “excellent quality” in the local language, Lugisu.  From the way the individual farmers nurture and harvest their crop to the way the staff taste the beans before export, quality is the highest priority for Gumutindo. The coffee is grown at a high altitude in the lush area around Mount Elgon, a region well known for its fertile soil and tropical weather.

The coffee cherries are hand-picked when they are at their freshest and ripest.  On top of this, Gumutindo employs up to 100 people to hand sort the beans.  And the hard work does not stop there. These beans are then tasted by an experienced coffee quality team, led by Lydia (pictured), to make sure they’re perfect for our coffees. The ideal growing conditions along with the expertise from the growers combine to produce one of the highest quality Arabica coffees in the area. Try our Classics Medium Roast and Organic Decaffeinated Medium Roast Instant Coffees to find out just how good they are!
