‘Rooted in Quality’ is an exciting project led by the Cafédirect Producers Foundation and jointly funded by Cafédirect and the Germany Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, focusing on supporting smallholder coffee farmers in the Dominican Republic and Haiti to improve their coffee quality and diversify their incomes.
CPF have been working with two partner organisations – Fedecares in the Dominican Republic and Recocarno in Haiti – to deliver this project and improve livelihoods for 5,000 coffee farmers and their families.
This project engages and empowers small producers, particularly women and youth, to share their knowledge as they lead this project on the ground. Key activities include establishing demonstration farms where farmers can highlight and share good farming practices and supporting entrepreneurial women and youth to develop micro-enterprises that will help them increase household incomes and improve their coffee quality.
This 3-year project will finish in December 2015. Now in the final year of the project, many farmers are already sharing lessons learned and innovative farming techniques with their peers, creating networks which will continue to improve coffee production in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
