Producer Partnership Programme (PPP)
The PPP, a programme unique to Cafédirect, provides tailor-made support to all our grower partners to enable them to further strengthen and grow their businesses and organisations. This work goes above and beyond the programmes funded by Fairtrade social premiums and what we pay for raw materials.
PPP activities focus on supporting farmers in four main areas:
Governance and compliance – for example, how our partners run their organisations and gain and maintain Fairtrade certification
Business operations – for example, how our partners manage volatile prices in the coffee, tea, and cocoa markets, how to assure the highest quality of their products, how to meet new food standards, how to introduce environmental strategies into their business operations, how to develop new lines of business and markets, and how to adapt to the challenges of climate change.
Policy influence & joint learning – for example, bringing different grower partners together for joint workshops, assisting them in marketing their products more efficiently as a group, and how to lobby for their local and international interests.
Communication & new potentials – for example, seeking out new partner groups worldwide that meet Cafédirect’s strict quality profile and benefit smallholder farmers, and linking our grower partners to our employees and consumers in the UK.
In short, we’re a small company, but we’re setting a big example.
Can you imagine a world in which large, multinational companies reinvested the majority of their profits into a good cause? We can, and we do.
