Hello!

I’m Olly Smith, wine expert, flavour fan and telly-man. I’m chuffed to bits to be working with Cafédirect - I’m a massive coffee lover and have been a Cafédirect drinker many years: amazing coffees with stunning diversity as well as their other great drinks such as Teadirect and Cocodirect. But more than making delicious hot drinks, I love the attitude of the company - the spirit of cooperation with the growers and farmers without whom there would be no steaming delicious cups at all! It’s not often you get the chance to say thank you but I am grateful for the world of flavours that the growers, importers and blenders have introduced me to over the years and this is my chance to say cheers!

The team at Cafédirect are a top bunch and they couldn’t have given me a warmer welcome and been more proud of the work they do when I visited their offices last week. Brimming with brilliance! I even got the chance to meet some of the experts behind the coffee and tea blending who gave me some fascinating insights into flavour profiles and just how crucial it is to work with the best places, people and techniques to preserve the perfect flavour in the cup. It inspired me and I can’t wait to visit a cooperative to experience the finest crops that make it into our cups and meet the growers first hand to see the positive impact that Cafédirect is having. It’s something we don’t think about enough, where our pounds and pennies actually end up, and for me, working with an organization who plough 60% of their profits back into changing lives long term is an opportunity to shout about something we should be seeing a whole lot more of.

I’ve got a busy year ahead working at the Taste Festival in London from 19th-22nd June and the BBC Good Food shows up and down the country, keep your eyes peeled and do come and say hello! Whatever time of day it is we’ll find something appropriate to sip – Kilimanjaro for breakfast, Teadirect in the afternoon, Machu Picchu after dinner, Cocodirect if the weather’s nippy and who knows, perhaps even a glass of something more medicinal!
